UNDER THE STRATA
UNDER THE STRATA is a form of crystallization of a given moment. Similar to a relic out of our world of consumption, the work associate two different types of collections in a series of multilayered resins. The pieces highlight and reflect the artist's daily consumption while living and working in Egypt. Morgane Erpen has therefore collected all the plastic bags given in shops as well as various pieces of everyday packaging. Reworked either as raw material or used as moulds, she transforms these objects into the representation of a possible antropocene fossil. Collecting processes has always been part of the artist's daily life - mainly everyday objects as well as plants and flowers. Here, the composition of organic and plastic material assembles the artificial and the natural, allowing them to dialogue while tending to be in confrontation.
Morgane Erpen, *1991 Montreux
The work of Morgane Erpen is mainly composed of installations and sculptures and is closely related to experimentation and research around materials. Her practice focuses on the modern way of life: the way we consume and live, the new technologies available and more specifically our impact on what surrounds us. Questioning the relations between man, society and nature, hence its particular appeal to the Anthropocene, Morgane Erpen develops an analytical and sensitive approach to these confrontations, mixing in-depth research on the themes with fictional elements. She uses these references in order to create parallels between the materials and their functions by proposing at the same time a fictitious re-reading of the theme.
